Preparing your French visa application
France visa

Know which visa to apply for, and file an application that holds up.

France has twenty-seven visa categories. Only one matches your plan, and each demands its own documents. Picking the wrong category, or missing one document, means a refusal.

3,524,108

541,984

€90 to €99
in consular fees, which are not refunded if you are refused

Source of the first two figures: French Ministry of the Interior, visas issued to foreign nationals in 2025. Fees: france-visas.gouv.fr.

A refusal costs far more than the application fee

A refused application means months lost, a flight booking to redo, sometimes a missed academic year or a job offer that no longer waits for you. The refusal stays on your consular record, and it will be held against you next time.

In most cases the plan is not the problem. It is the category chosen, a missing document, a paper translated by a translator who was not sworn, a certificate that expired eleven days ago. Points of form that nobody explains to you before the refusal arrives.

That is why DiaVisa exists. We do not file your application for you. We tell you which category matches your situation, which documents it requires, which ones you are missing, and in what order to obtain them.

Three ways forward, depending on where you stand

Each answers a different moment. The first is enough for many people.

Option 1

France Visa Diagnostic

This is for you if you know what you want to do in France, but not which visa to apply for or which documents to gather.
  • The orientation diagnostic is free. About ten questions, roughly ninety seconds, and you see which of the twenty-seven categories matches your situation.
  • If you want to go further, the in-depth diagnostic examines your situation condition by condition and tells you which ones are not met.
  • Your personalised PDF report: the category selected and why, the conditions you do not yet meet, and your action plan in the order you should follow it.
  • The document checklist for your category: every required item, the form it must take, and what gets it rejected.

How DiaVisa decides

The orientation uses no generative artificial intelligence. It runs on a hand-written rules engine that always applies the same rule to the same answers. Two people in the same situation get the same result, and the report shows you the path it followed.

Your answers to the free diagnostic stay in your browser. They are not sent anywhere, and no bank details are asked for at this stage.

Option 2

My France Project

This is for you if you want to come to France but your plan is not yet built. Before choosing a visa, you need to know what you are coming to do.
  • Two tracks depending on your direction: studies or work. More will follow.
  • We start from your real situation — your level of education, your experience, your means and your deadline — to build a plan that stands up in front of a consulate.
  • A clear plan saves you time on everything that follows: it determines the visa category, the documents to gather and the timetable.

Option 3

The DiaVisa Method

This is for you if your plan is settled, your visa identified, and you want to be accompanied all the way to filing, leaving nothing to chance.
  • Six to nine months of support, from framing the plan to filing the application, with a dedicated DiaVisa case manager who reviews your progress every Friday.
  • Your file is gone through document by document, in the form required by your category and by the post where you will file.
  • We handle the formalities for you: registration on France-Visas, the appointment at the service provider, and filing through the diplomatic pouch with our partner immigration lawyer.
  • If you are refused, legal fees are covered for the appeal before the CRRV, and then before the Nantes administrative court if the commission rejects it.
  • Support continues after you arrive: registering the visa on your ANEF account, then an administrative review with the partner lawyer six months later.
  • Complete support, limited to a small number of files, because it takes real time rather than one more form.

What DiaVisa does not do

We cannot guarantee that a visa will be granted. That decision belongs to the French consular authorities, and to them alone. If anyone promises you more, be wary.

We are neither a consulate nor a public administration. DiaVisa is an information and preparation service, not legal advice. Acts that require a lawyer are handled by our partner immigration lawyer, and by him alone.

With the France Visa Diagnostic and My France Project, you stay in charge of your own formalities: we tell you what to do, you do it. Formalities carried out for you, from the appointment to the filing, belong to the DiaVisa Method alone.

Start by finding out which visa applies to you

It is free, it takes about ninety seconds, and you have nothing to create or to hand over. You will see your category before deciding whether to go further.
